Materix Nanotechnology

Energy Efficiency

Materix is a nanotechnology company based in İzmir, Türkiye, that has developed a multifunctional liquid nano‑coating to enhance the efficiency and durability of solar panels, while minimizing maintenance and environmental impact. When applied to photovoltaic modules, the coating supports reduced accumulation of dust, snow and ice, which can impair light transmission and electrical output, and can contribute to extended operational lifetimes and reduced cleaning cycles. As a result, it enables passive, self-cleaning behavior that can boost panel output by up to 8 %, lower cleaning costs, reduce water use and prolong panel lifespan. The technology arrives in liquid form and forms a transparent film typically under 300 nm thick, applied via spraying, delivering durability and environmental protection across various surface types. Initially focusing on the solar energy, Materix is expanding its nano‑coating innovation to other materials such as glass, metal, plastics, wood and textiles. Materix was established within a university technopark environment and has received early-stage support and investment to advance its product development and commercialization. The company’s technology is positioned to serve markets seeking enhanced operational efficiency and reduced lifecycle costs, particularly in renewable energy installations where surface maintenance and environmental exposure influence performance.

ERUSUFA

Green Buildings

ERUSUFA is a Turkish startup that developed SUF@ - a self-sufficient urban furniture system that functions as an air purification and climate resilience tool using living microalgae. It addresses urban air pollution by capturing CO₂ and volatile organic compounds (VOCs), producing oxygen through photosynthesis, and generating sustainable biomass that can be used to manufacture biodegradable components. Each SUF@ unit has the photosynthetic capacity of six adult trees. Powered entirely by solar energy and using harvested rainwater for microalgae cultivation, the unit operates independently and includes a biosensor and automation system for real-time monitoring and optimal function. It embodies circular economy principles, producing biopolymers from its own biomass, eliminating plastic intermediates, and contributing to greener, healthier urban environments. The SUF@ system is especially suited for cities with limited green space and high air pollution, offering an innovative solution that integrates ecological restoration with smart design and flexible, modular deployment.

ALGBIO

Waste Beneficiation

ALGBIO treats wastewater sewage and captures CO2 with microalgae to produce biofuels, bioplastics, biomaterials and generate carbon credits. Algae are desirable as a source of biofuel as they have a high yield of oil and can flourish on land where other plants can not be produced. As plants, algae can grow with carbon dioxide, sunlight, and nutrients. ALGBIO harvests biomass and turns it into gasoline or black coal, which can be sent to refineries to be converted into chemical or transport fuel. With adequate research and development, biofuel, bioplastic and biomaterials from algae could be a price-effective alternative for petroleum based options.

ALGBIO’s circular economy model provides zero waste policy by maximizing resource utilization and minimizing waste with bioplastic production from algal waste too. ALGBIO enables the transition from a fossil based economy to sustainable manufacturing by providing waste management, carbon capture and renewables.

Mikrohes Tekenoloji Enerji San. ve Ti.c A.Ş.

Advanced Materials & Chemicals
Green Buildings
Water Efficiency

Mikrohes produces Archimedes Screws Turbines (ASTs). ASTs are a new form of small, hydroelectric powerplant that can be applied even in low head sites. ASTs offer a clean and renewable source of energy and are safe for wildlife , especially fish in hydro generation options. ASTs can offer many economic, social and environmental advantages that make them an important option for providing sustainable hydropower development.

Archimedes screws can operate in low water heads (less than about 10 m) and a wide range of flow rates with practical efficiencies of 60% to 80% and can generate up to 400 kW of power. ASTs increase the number of suitable sites where it is possible to develop sustainable hydropower, including undeveloped, hard to access regions and small communities. At many low head sites, ASTs may be more cost-effective, with lower installation and operating costs than alternative hydropower systems. ASTs may also reduce the disturbance of natural sedimentation and erosion processes, and have smaller impacts on fish and other fauna. ASTs can often be retrofitted to existing unpowered dams or weirs, providing new hydropower capacity for very little marginal environmental impact.
