Welcome to GCIP Namibia

The Global Cleantech Innovation Programme (GCIP) Namibia, a United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO)-led initiative executed by the Environmental Investment Fund of Namibia (EIF) and supported by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), aims to accelerate clean technology innovation and entrepreneurship to address Namibia’s pressing climate and environmental challenges.

Launched under the theme of promoting sustainable solutions for climate change mitigation, land degradation neutrality, and green economic growth, GCIP Namibia is specifically adapted to Namibia’s unique socio-economic and ecological context. The programme targets early-stage cleantech startups and SMEs, particularly those operating in informal settlements and peri-urban areas, where innovative solutions are critical to enhancing livelihoods, restoring degraded lands, and improving resilience against environmental risks

The GCIP Namibia programme supports entrepreneurs through a structured accelerator model, offering tailored business development services, mentorship, access to finance, and technical capacity building. Innovators are equipped with the necessary skills to develop scalable business models, attract investment, and contribute meaningfully to Namibia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Key areas of innovation supported under GCIP Namibia include:
- Renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies
- Sustainable agriculture and smart irrigation solutions
- Waste management and recycling innovations
- Land restoration and ecosystem rehabilitation technologies
- Water management and conservation solutions

In addition to supporting enterprises, GCIP Namibia is dedicated to strengthening the national Cleantech Innovation and Entrepreneurship Ecosystem (CIEE) by fostering stronger institutional linkages, supporting policy dialogue, and enhancing the enabling environment for clean technologies. The programme places a strong emphasis on gender inclusivity, aiming for at least 40% women-led enterprise participation across its interventions.

The first cycle of the GCIP Namibia Accelerator Programme will support up to 50 enterprises over three years, with a strong focus on companies offering scalable solutions for land degradation and climate change mitigation. Successful enterprises will not only benefit from coaching and investment facilitation but will also have the opportunity to integrate into the broader global GCIP network, opening doors for regional and international market expansion.

Through its comprehensive approach, GCIP Namibia seeks to unlock the potential of local innovation, drive green job creation, promote sustainable urban development, and position Namibia as a regional leader in cleantech entrepreneurship.
