Alternative Solutions is a Moroccan company that turns waste from the country's historic date palm industry into eco-friendly wooden sheets, which are used in construction and interior design. Co-founders Mohammed Harakate, Meriem Nadi, and Ayoub Habik began operations in 2017, focusing on using palm waste that would otherwise be left to rot or burnt. The company designed machinery that can process the palm waste via a complicated five-step process, and is able to recycle 40% of palm waste, with plans to recycle all of it in the future. The company has already received funding from various backers, including the Moroccan Center for Innovation and Social Entrepreneurship, the World Bank, and Bidaya Funds, a green-tech incubator.
