DATA PROTECTION DISCLAIMER FOR UNIDO’S GCIP ACCELERATOR APPLICANTS
The protection of your privacy, including your personal data, intellectual property (IP) and potential IP, as well as photographs taken of individuals, digital content, and technologies during the application process and programme participation, is of great importance to the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Consequently, all personal data that can identify you either directly or indirectly will be handled legitimately and with the necessary care. This Data Protection Disclaimer (hereinafter referred to as "Disclaimer") describes how UNIDO processes your personal data for the purposes it has been collected for and what rights you have as a data subject.
Your personal data is collected, processed, and stored by UNIDO in accordance with the principles and provisions laid down in the UNIDO Policy on the Protection of Personal Data, which is based on e.g., the UN system-wide Principles on Personal Data Protection and Privacy adopted by the High-Level Committee on Management (HLCM) in 2018.
The purpose of the processing is to (a) collect the initial pool of applicants to the UNIDO’s GCIP Accelerator in the GCIP countries; (b) evaluate applicants, assess their eligibility and select national semi-finalists from the initial pool of applicants to the UNIDO’s GCIP Accelerator in the GCIP countries; (c) provide subsequent support services to the UNIDO’s GCIP Accelerator semi-finalists, including through outreach and visibility activities; (d) generate reports for donors and stakeholders.
DEFINITIONS
For the purposes of this Data Protection Disclaimer:
GCIP Accelerator
GCIP acceleration services, which focus on identifying, accelerating and supporting cleantech entrepreneurs in emerging and developing markets with technological and business solutions to address climate change and environmental challenges. GCIP Accelerator Processes are a specific set of repeatable steps focused on key operational activities such as screening applicants, managing mentors, facilitating judging sessions or running training academies. They are repeatable activities that take place within every annual GCIP Accelerator.
Applicant
A team that applies to participate in the GCIP Accelerator.
Personal Data
Encompasses any information that can be used to directly or indirectly identify an individual, including but not limited to names, contact details, biographical information, and any data shared in application materials.
THE PERSONAL DATA, WHICH MAY BE PROCESSED FOR THE DESCRIBED PURPOSE(S) INCLUDES:
Information necessary to identify and contact applicants, such as full name, gender, date of birth, nationality, email address, phone number, and residential address.
Information about the applicant’s business, including the company name, legal status, business address, website and social media links, date of establishment, team composition - including co-founders and key team members. Detailed description of cleantech innovation, including the level of technological maturity (Technology Readiness Level), intellectual property status (such as patents, trademarks, or copyrights), and the sector in which the solution is applied. Market and financial information to assess the commercial potential of the proposed solution. This includes defining the target market, identifying customer segments, outlining the revenue model, providing financial projections, grants, or fundraising efforts.
IP AND POTENTIAL IP
Throughout the application process and during the GCIP Accelerator Programme, applicants may provide information related to intellectual property, potential intellectual property, business plans, and proprietary technologies. We commit to treating all such information as confidential and utilizing it solely for evaluation and programme-related purposes. We will not disclose, share, or exploit this information for any purposes other than those directly related to the Accelerator.
PHOTO, VIDEO AND MULTIMEDIA MATERIALS
During events, workshops, and programme activities, photographs and visual materials may be taken that include individuals, content, and technologies. These visuals may be used for programme documentation and promotional purposes. However, we will obtain your explicit consent before using any such visuals in a manner that may allow identification of sensitive content. The Data Controller determining the purpose and the means of the processing activity is in UNIDO. The UNIDO organizational entity responsible for managing personal data processing is the Division of Energy and Climate Action of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Industrial Development.
SHARING WITH THIRD PARTIES
Judges, Mentors, and Project Management Unit: As part of the UNIDO’s GCIP Accelerator, your application information, including IP and potential IP, may be shared with judges, mentors, and the Project Management Unit responsible for the management and evaluation of the Accelerator. Such sharing will be limited to what is necessary for the proper functioning of the programme, and all third parties involved are bound by confidentiality agreements and data protection regulations.
DATA SECURITY AND RETENTION
UNIDO securely stores your Personal Data. In order to protect your Personal Data, UNIDO has put in place a number of technical and organizational measures. Technical measures include appropriate actions to address online security, risk of data loss, alteration of data or unauthorized access, taking into consideration the risk presented by the processing and the nature of the personal data being processed. Organizational measures include restricting access to Personal Data solely to authorized persons with a legitimate need to know for the purposes of this processing activity.
Data is retained only for as long as necessary to fulfill these objectives, after which it is securely deleted or anonymized, unless required for legal, reporting, or research purposes. Appropriate technical and organizational measures are in place to protect personal data from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or alteration.
YOUR RIGHTS
You have the right to access your personal data and the right to request the correction of any inaccurate or incomplete personal data, as well as to request the erasure/deletion of your Personal Data. You can also object to the processing of your Personal Data on compelling and legitimate grounds, including a decision based solely on automated processing without human intervention.
